Changes to Express Entry

New reforms to Express Entry

On March 31, 2017, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced the introduction of several new reforms to the system that will take effect on June 6, 2017. In particular:

  • Additional points (15-30) will be awarded to French-speaking candidates.
  • Points (15) will be awarded to applicants with siblings in Canada.
  • Job Bank registration will become voluntary for all Express Entry applicants.

Changes to October 20, 2020

You can earn additional points for good French language skills.

If you have achieved CLB Level 7 or higher in all four French language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), you will receive:

  • 25 additional points if you have achieved CLB level 4 or lower in English (or you have not taken an English test);

  • 50 additional points if you have achieved CLB Level 5 or higher in all four English language skills.

These points are in addition to the points you earn for official languages.
